You Are Exactly Where You Need To Be – By Vanessa Ajagu

Hey guys,

Welcome to a new section on my blog called Writer’s Block. I plan to feature writers on here every month. This section gives them a platform to freely express themselves through short write-ups on any topic of their choice, while also passing across important messages to you guys, the readers.

Our first feature is Vanessa Ajagu

Here’s what she had to say:

You go on Instagram and you see a bikini pic of a fitness hottie …. Mmmm. You think to yourself …

“Holyyy, if I had HER body … oh my gosh … just goals. Bare slay-my-life goals.

If I HAD THAT GIRL’S BODY … Lord knows I would use my haters’ tears to clean my abs.”

Swipe, swipe. Interesting. Your phone buzzes. Notification … hol’ up.

LinkedIn update … Your friend’s business just got a huge break and you wonder what exactly you’ve done with your time or with …

“Wait … she got TORY LANEZ to endorse her product? Wow what the actual fuck have I been doing for real man?!” you think to yourself.

To be fair, you don’t have a business, you don’t even have PLANS for starting a business. You know what, you actually hate the idea of running a business; you’d rather stick your fingers into your eyes before you do any form of accounting or company organization but still … shit.

No worries, I get you. You’re my home girl and I get it, trust. I’ve realized that many times, many many many times, we get so caught up thinking about what other people have or what other people are doing that we forget how blessed we are to wear our own shoes.

I remember how anxious I used to be; I thought everyone around me was making progress and I just wasn’t. It seemed all I was doing was going to school and writing dumb exams. I want to be a lawyer and unlike the UK or Nigeria where law is offered as a first degree, law in North America is a second degree (sorta like a 3-year masters program). So you can understand my anxiety when my juniors in high school were already done with their UK law degrees and I hadn’t started mine. It absolutely sucked feeling left behind.

Fast forward to today, I’ve been so blessed that I drew charts to help me decide between Harvard Law and Columbia Law (like who the fuck am I lol? I’m still in disbelief that I even have this choice to make. God is really something). By His grace, this girl is going to make managing partner at a New York firm one day or get elected as US Attorney General or some other unbelievable shit. Getting to this point involved self-doubt and social comparisons but thankfully, I’ve learnt contentment with my process.

Every single person has a different path in life and there’s absolutely no need to feel like you’re not on yours. YOU ARE. That failure you just came across or that long ass nap you’ve been taking, those are all in your path and they define your story. You’re exactly where you’re supposed to be today. Your weight is perfect for you today so strut bitch, strut like you mean ittttt. You’re single today .. yay! you get to spend ALLLL your time smothering yourself with true love.

We are all figuring life out so breathe. Like Abuella always tells Jane (the virgin), “Inhala, Exhala”. Tomorrow’s a different day.

I hope you guys loved this as much as I did, because there is truly a powerful message here. Thank you Vanessa!

Be you. Do you. Stay true.
